Overnight and 24-hour care

The hours nobody else covers.

Someone there through the night, and through the parts of the day nobody sees.

Nights are where home care usually thins out. Days are covered, the evening visit happens, and then there is a gap of ten or twelve hours that everyone quietly worries about.

There are really three different things people mean by night cover, and it is worth being clear which one you need. A sleepover, where the carer sleeps in the home and is there if something happens. Active overnight, where someone stays awake because getting up is frequent or falls are a real risk. And full 24-hour cover, which is a small rotating team rather than one person doing an impossible shift.

All three only work if the people involved are familiar. Waking disoriented at 3am to someone you have never met is the situation we are trying to prevent, not create.

Overnight is when unfamiliarity is hardest. Waking at 3am to a face you do not recognise is frightening. Night cover comes from inside the Care Circle wherever we can arrange it.

What this actually includes

  • Sleepover cover, where the carer sleeps and is there if needed
  • Active overnight support, where someone is awake through the night
  • Rotating 24-hour cover from a small, named team
  • Help getting to bed and starting the day at either end of the night
  • A clear handover between the day and night carers

People call us when

  • There have been falls at night, or near misses getting to the bathroom
  • Someone is waking confused and it is not safe to be alone
  • A family carer has not slept properly in weeks
  • Coming home from hospital and the first fortnight needs full cover
  • End of life care at home, where somebody needs to be there

Not sure if this is the right support?

Talk it through with a real person. No obligation, and we call back within two business hours.

Common questions

What is the difference between a sleepover and active overnight care?
On a sleepover the carer sleeps in the home and gets up if needed. Active overnight means the carer stays awake for the whole shift because support is expected through the night. They are priced differently, and we will tell you which one your situation actually calls for rather than the more expensive one.
Is 24-hour care one carer living in?
No. Around the clock cover is a small rotating team, because no single person can safely work continuously. We keep that team as small as the roster allows, so it still feels like familiar faces rather than a revolving door.
Can you start overnight cover quickly?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on whether we have carers in your suburb. Call us and you will get a straight answer about what is possible this week rather than a maybe.
