Respite

A break you can actually rest during.

A proper break for family carers, without handing over to a stranger.

Respite fails for one reason more than any other. The carer takes the break and spends it worrying, because the person covering has never met their mother before and has been handed a two-page summary of a whole life.

Aldera builds respite out of the Care Circle that is already in place, or introduces it properly before the break rather than on the morning of it. The person stepping in knows the routine, the names, what settles her and what does not.

It works from an afternoon to a full week, and the handover happens in both directions, so you come back to a picture of what actually happened rather than a blank.

You can only rest if you trust who is stepping in. Respite with Aldera means the person covering for you already knows the One Story, the routines and the names.

Common questions

How much notice do you need?
For planned respite, the more notice the better, because we would rather introduce the carer beforehand than send someone cold. For urgent situations, call us and we will tell you straight away what is possible in your area.
Can respite be overnight?
Yes, overnight and multi-day respite are both possible where we have the carers for it in your region. Coverage varies by suburb and we will be honest with you about ours.
Is respite only for dementia?
No. Respite is for the family carer, whatever the reason they are caring. It is used just as often for frailty, recovery after a hospital stay, or simple exhaustion.
