How much does in-home aged care cost in Australia?

The honest answer is that it depends, and any provider who quotes you a single figure before understanding your situation is guessing. What we can do is explain how the cost is built, so the number stops feeling like a mystery.
The government pays the largest share for most people
In-home aged care in Australia is funded through the Support at Home program. For most people, the government pays the largest part of the cost. Clinical care, such as nursing, is fully government funded and carries no personal contribution.
What you might contribute towards is everyday living and independence supports, and that amount depends on a means assessment of your income and assets. Some people contribute nothing. Others contribute a modest share. You will know which applies to you before you commit to anything.
The three numbers that actually matter
When you talk to us, we answer the same three questions every time:
- What the government pays for, under your assessed classification.
- What you contribute, if anything, based on your means assessment.
- What an hour of care actually costs, in dollars, in writing, before care begins.
That is the whole picture. No surprises, no fine print you discover later.
Why we will not print a price list
Rates and contribution rules are set nationally and they change. Publishing a dollar figure here would only mislead you, because your figure depends on your classification and your finances, not on a website. The current, official information lives at myagedcare.gov.au, and we will walk you through your specific numbers on the phone.
Getting to your real number
The path is short. You get assessed through My Aged Care, which sets your funding level. Then you choose a provider, and we map your budget against real costs so you can see exactly what your care looks like in dollars.
If you would rather just talk it through first, that is completely normal. Call us and we will explain it plainly, including what to say to My Aged Care.
This guide is general information, not financial advice. Your circumstances are your own, and current figures should always be confirmed directly.
